IS: Kichwa Language

Over the past century indigenous language systems have been disappearing at an alarming rate all over the globe. As an indigenous language is lost so are many of the cultural traditions associated with that language; stories, etno-histories, community ethics and etiquette, religious and spiritual beliefs, food, medicine, music, crafts ect. To learn a language is to learn about the people who speak it. The course Kichwa Language, focuses on the basic skill development of speaking, writing, reading, and listening in the Kichwa dialect. Additionally, the course emphasizes learning about Kichwa life and cultural traditions through the understanding and practice of the language. The course, as taught by, Cesar Cerda, and mentored by Didier Lacaze, will take place in Ecuadorian Amazon, in the provinces of Napo and Pastaza, where the Kichwa people are the indigenous ethnic majority and whose language continues to live and thrive at the heart of their culture.
