Prescott College Educational Goals

My educational goal is a Bachelors Degree with a competence in Nonprofit Business and a Breadth in Ecology. Prescott College appeals to me because of how I can fit my goal of a Bachelors degree into my present community and life-style. What motivates me to learn is my desire to serve my community in the most effective way that I can while remaining mindful ecology, social justice and peace. In the future I plan on taking my learning to the very heart of my community to inspire creativity and care for the earth.

Mission-Based Goals

True integrated community-based self-guided 'learn and serve' education is weaves many aspects into education while allowing the student to explore what they as an individual find fits their personal needs at the time. Therefore in this opening page of my E-Portfolio I would like to state that the Mission Based Sections of this online document reflect an inter-weaving of the educational goals so social justice, ecological literacy, community engagement and life-long learning. The goals are split into different sections. Yet, it is important to understand that many of the achievements in one section might as easily be applied learning in another section and vice versa. This is a sign of a truly integrated education. Thus in viewing this portfolio please understand that all sections essentially address all of the mission-based goals.

Educational Theory

As a student at Prescott College I have developed two central educational theories. each strong influenced by Bob Shogren.

The first theory that I develped and applied through to my education at

Prescott College can be simply shown as:

Relationship

Connection

Process

Integration

Critic

Action

The second theory can be briefly stated as 'what I liked and what I would change'

I have found that within each educational experience there are always factors that I enjoyed, liked, learned from, felt were positive. And within each educational experience thereare aspects which I would change, improve or alter to reach a

more positive educational outcome. At the end of each educational experience I take a moment to asses which aspects of the experience I found postive, helpful, motivational, inspiring and which aspects I would change.

These above are the keys to the way I approach learning that I have discovered at Prescott College. That I will apply to my life and a life-long learner.
