Women's Empowerment Breakthrough! Conference

During the 2003-2004 academic year I served on the consultative committee for Courtney Osterfelt’s senior project. Courtney is a graduate of Prescott College’s Resident Degree Program; December 2004 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education for Social Change. Courtney’s project included creating a weekend conference for high school aged young women in the Prescott tri-city area, which was held for the first time on October 1-3, 2004. I served in an advisory and support role to create and manage the call for presentations as well as providing technical and other support for many aspects of the project. In addition, I presented two sessions at the conference: one on the portrayal of women in the media and the second a creative writing session that provided opportunity for the participants to look at young women and/in literature.

Courtney is now working to get the conference well established so that it will continue as a sustainable annual event. Please let the teenage women in your life know about this great opportunity. You can support the WEB! Conference with your donations of time or money.

The second annual WEB! Conference will take place September 16 - 18, 2005.

The WEB! Mission Statement: This conference is a safe place in which to collectively educate ourselves as young women of the various resources available to us. We will learn to utilize the multitude of tools we have to successfully live in a society that continues to under represent women. In turn we will walk away from this experience an active part of a new support network of strong, inspired, and empowered females.
