Here are some of the ideas from our first couple of meetings. Faculty, students, and staff are encouraged to make these ideas happen in our own classes and workplaces.

  • Have a volunteer day
  • Do more service projects
  • Sponsor workshops, such as NonViolent Communication
  • Create an affirmative action policy relating to admissions
  • Advertise for faculty positions in locations that will reach a more diverse population
  • Make our community more supportive of the diversity we have and more inviting for everyone to come here
  • Encourage or sponsor events in the tri-city area that honor and celebrate diversity
  • Use the Crossroads Center to sponsor diverse cultural events for the Prescott College and prescott community, such as theater, readings, concerts, etc.
  • Promote our programs to underrepresented groups--especially environmental studies and adventure education
  • Promote our college to schools in rural and working-class areas, which currently get military recruitment but not many opportunities like a Prescott education
  • Create an alliance with the three Prescott area colleges to address diversity
  • Do more outreach into the very diverse community of Prescott
  • Be more active around anti-racism and anti-hate philosophy in our community
  • Show student films at our Celebrate Diversity Film Festival
  • Foster acceptance!!
  • Sponsor sports activities for the whole community
  • Create opportunities to bridge RDP programs--have creative writing workshops for employees and students not in the Arts and Letters program and outdoor activities for students not in Adventure Education
  • Have a picnic at Goldwater Lake for students and employees of all three colleges
  • Find more ways to get RDP, ADP, and MAP students together--use the Crossroads Center
  • Change forms, such as our application forms, to eliminate check boxes for ethnicity and gender whenever possible
  • Make restrooms in the Crossroads Center gender free or gender inclusive

More to come... Please feel free to contact me with your ideas for ways in which we can and do foster, sustain, and celebrate diversity.
